Tom has been awarded the ABB Research Prize for his doctoral thesis.
Tom Terlouw, the former doctoral student of SPL has been awarded the ABB Research Prize for his doctoral thesis ''Techno-economic and environmental assessment of low-carbon energy systems''.
Every year ABB Switzerland supports young scientists by honoring outstanding master’s and doctoral theses with a research prize. This year's ABB prize is awarded to our former group member, Tom Terlouw, whose research focused on two critical areas:
1. Designing low-carbon (decentralized) multi-energy systems to achieve emission reductions.
2. Evaluating carbon dioxide removal options to compensate for residual emissions, providing best-practice recommendations to support a net-zero global energy system.
Tom's doctoral work was a collaboration between PSI (Paul Scherrer Institut) in the PSI Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis (LEA) and ETH Zürich (SPL), working with Christian Bauer, Peter Burgherr, Marco Mazzotti, and Russell McKenna.
Congratulations Tom!
