Gordon Research Conference 2019

Gordon Research Conference 2019: Tackling the Carbon Dioxide Challenge for a Sustainable Future

Post-conference site visits - Registration

For the attendees of the 2019 GRC on CCUS in Les Diablerets, from May 5th to May 10th, 2019.

For this year's conference we offer you the possibility to join an optional post-conference site visit, that is organized on Friday, May 10th, from 08:00 AM to midafternoon. In case you are interested, please register here by April 10th, 2019.

The visit will be to the external pageClimeworks plant in Hinwil, near Zurich, Switzerland. Climeworks is the Swiss company that has developed and deployed a technology to capture CO2 directly from air. Their installation in Hinwil is the largest currently operated, with a capacity to capture more than one thousand tonnes of CO2 per year (the CO2 is used to enhance production of a nearby greenhouse).

The participants will travel using public transportation (train and bus). They will be accompanied by the organizers, and the site visit will be free of charge, but they will have to cover their own travel expenses (details provided in the attached file).

Visit to the Climeworks plant
The departure is immediately after breakfast with the 8:07 AM train from the train station in Les Diablerets, with arrival at the Climeworks plant location (Hinwil) at 1:23 PM. Participants will have the possibility to eat on the train leg between Lausanne and Zurich, either a sandwich that can be bought at the Lausanne train station or a full lunch at the train restaurant. The visit will be completed at about 4:00 PM (if a participant is in a hurry, they can skip the second part of the visit and leave at about 3:00 PM). Consider that travelling from Hinwil (Climeworks plant) to Zurich airport takes less than an hour, whereas travelling to Geneva airport takes about four hours.

If you are interested to participate, you have to register by April 10th, 2019. The number of participants is limited to 60, and we will accept registration on a first-come first-serve basis. The names of the registered participants will be shared with the host (Climeworks), and we ask to ensure you do participate in the case of registration. If you need help in organising your travel on that day, please contact Marco Mazzotti (GRC chair, ) or Lisa Joss (GRS co-chair, ).
